Products Description

best aquarium food for discus fish

Aqua Plus® Discus Fish Food is formulated around the carnivorous requirements of discus, with protein sources primarily from fish meal, shrimp meal, and squid meal, delivering a minimum of 45% crude protein. Spirulina and natural astaxanthin are not for short-term colour boosting but for maintaining colour stability through gradual carotenoid deposition in the scales. Pellet size is controlled between 1.0 and 1.5mm, matching the mouth structure of discus, reducing the need for repeated biting and shortening digestion time. Discus Fish Food Pellets maintain a slow-sinking property that keeps the pellets intact through the water column, allowing discus to feed in mid-water and bottom layers.

Discus Food has vitamin C and E levels stabilized during processing to minimise heat loss. β-glucan supports immune function, while probiotics assist gut flora balance. Reduced digestive load means less undigested residue in waste, lowering the indirect impact on water quality.

Low-temperature processing reduces vitamin and amino acid loss during forming, keeping protein structure relatively intact. Discus Granules show minimal batch-to-batch variation, with no transition period needed when switching between lots.

Discus Fish Food should be kept sealed in a cool, dry place after opening. Damp conditions cause clumping and affect even distribution. Feed two to three times daily, with each portion consumed within two to three minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Exceptional Bits suitable for newly introduced Discus?

A: Yes, but fasting for 1 day is recommended to let them acclimate. Start with small portions, and if the fish are stressed, use frozen bloodworms first before transitioning to pellets.

Q: Water turns cloudy after feeding. What should I do?

A: Likely due to overfeeding or uneaten food. Solutions:
Reduce portion size.
Improve filtration or perform a water change.
Check if the food is expired or damp.

Q: Can it be fed to other tropical fish?

A: Yes, especially protein-dependent species like Arowana or Angelfish, but ensure pellet size matches their mouth size.

Q: How to identify high-quality fish food?

A: Look for:
High protein (≥40%), primarily from animal sources.
No artificial additives, low ash (≤12%).
Fish eat eagerly, and feces remain solid.

Q: Should feeding be adjusted during breeding?

A: Yes. Breeding pairs need extra protein and nutrients. Recommendations:

Increase feeding frequency (3-4x/day).

Supplement with live/frozen foods (e.g., bloodworms, brine shrimp).
