Products Description

Source Material and Freeze-Drying Process
Aqua Plus® Dried Gammarus are sourced from clean freshwater habitats. After harvest, the amphipods go through preliminary screening to remove damaged individuals and debris. Freeze-drying removes moisture at low temperatures, keeping protein and fatty acids intact. Rehydrated hook shrimp are close to fresh state, allowing fish to recognise the food through smell and texture. The process also eliminates common parasites and pathogens, reducing the risk of disease introduction that live feed often carries. No preservatives or artificial colourings are added, and the colour and smell of the shrimp show minimal change during processing.
Nutrition and Target Species
Hook shrimp offer substantial crude protein on a dry matter basis, with an amino acid profile covering the daily needs of both carnivorous and omnivorous fish. Gammarus Shrimp provide carotenoids that participate in pigment deposition through metabolism. Colour improvement requires consistent feeding over time and is not a short-term boosting effect. Dried Amphipods suit cichlids, tetras, goldfish, koi, seahorses, small marine fish, and freshwater shrimp. Feed once or twice daily, with each portion consumed within two to three minutes. High Protein Fish Food does not add significant load to the water column under normal portions. Leftover material breaks down more slowly than powdered feeds, with fewer suspended particles and reduced filter load.

Use and Storage

Color Enhancing Fish Food should be kept sealed in a cool, dry place after opening. Moisture softens the texture but does not affect safety. The whole hook shrimp can be fed directly or soaked before feeding. In mixed tanks, the moderate size of Dried Gammarus allows fish of different body sizes to feed without the need for crushing or sorting. Under dry conditions, the product stores well without refrigeration, saving space and eliminating the need for cold chain logistics.

FAQ
Q: Can it replace live/frozen food entirely?
A: While highly nutritious, we recommend rotating with other high-quality foods (pellets, flakes, frozen) for a balanced diet.
Q: Will my fish accept freeze-dried food immediately?
A: Some fish may need 1-2 weeks to adjust. Try soaking it or mixing with their usual food for transition.
Q: Can shrimp and invertebrates eat Gammarus?
A: Yes! Shrimp, crabs, and snails benefit from the calcium and protein in Gammarus, promoting molting and growth.
Q: Is this product sustainable?
A: Our Gammarus is responsibly sourced from controlled environments, ensuring minimal ecological impact.
