Frozen Maggots are excellent nutrition for your pet (high calcium and other nutrients snapped inside at freezing). Cheaper than mealworms they represent excellent value and will travel to you super-cooled and guaranteed not to melt.
They are fast becoming the staple insect meat for wildlife carers and bird breeders due to their ease of storage and soft syringable, high calcium and protien bodies. They are a great back-up to have on hand when you run out of live foods but also a fantastic and economical food for turtles, lizards, birds and fish who will take non-moving food items. At this price you can keep all your animals happy – even blueys and turtles who often miss out on insects due to the price, difficulty of care and access.
Now a bag of frozen Gents in the freezer means nutritional insects are always easily available at a reasonable price. You can learn much more about food choices in our nutrition guides.
Just keep them in the freezer for up to 12 months. It is best to pack them into small sealable bags and press as much air out as possible to give them the longest shelf life.
Just take out what you need a few minutes before – they will thaw very quickly.
