Products Description
Source and Process
Aqua Plus® Frozen Bloodworms are produced from farm-raised Chironomidae larvae. The controlled farming environment avoids batch inconsistency and contamination risks associated with wild harvesting. After harvest, the larvae go through cleaning and grading to remove debris and damaged individuals, keeping only those that are uniform in size and condition. The flash-freezing process is completed at low temperatures, preserving protein structure and fatty acid composition. After thawing, the texture stays close to that of live larvae. Unlike freeze-dried products, freezing preserves moisture and water-soluble nutrients. No additional preparation is needed after thawing.

Nutrition and Species
Chironomid larvae offer crude protein levels between 55% and 65% on a dry matter basis, with fat content between 10% and 15%, and an amino acid profile covering the daily needs of both carnivorous and omnivorous fish. Heme and carotenoids in Frozen Bloodworms Fish Food participate in pigment deposition through metabolism. Colour improvement requires consistent feeding over time and is not a short-term boosting effect. Flash-freezing also eliminates common parasites and pathogens, reducing the risk of disease introduction that live feed often carries. Bloodworms Frozen suit bettas, cichlids, discus, arowanas, goldfish, and most marine ornamental fish, with both juveniles and adults able to feed without difficulty. Feed once or twice daily, with each portion consumed within two to three minutes.

Use and Storage

Frozen Bloodworm Cubes come in portioned cube format for easy use. Take one cube, place it in a container, add a small amount of tank water, and wait until fully thawed before feeding. Hot water and microwave thawing should be avoided, as high temperatures alter protein structure and affect palatability. After opening, return unused portions to the freezer immediately to avoid repeated thawing, which affects quality. The product should be kept at -18°C or below at all times. Under proper storage conditions, it maintains its nutritional quality over an extended period. Frozen Bloodworms do not escape or contaminate water during feeding, and leftovers stay intact for easy observation and removal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I feed frozen bloodworms daily?
A: While highly nutritious, bloodworms should be part of a varied diet. Overfeeding can lead to fatty liver disease in some species. Rotate with pellets, brine shrimp, and vegetables.
Q: How should I store frozen bloodworms?
A: Keep at -18°C (0°F) or below in a sealed container. Avoid repeated thawing/refreezing to maintain quality.
Q: Are frozen bloodworms safe for shrimp/snails?
A: Yes! They are an excellent protein source for cherry shrimp, amano shrimp, and mystery snails.
Q: My fish ignores thawed bloodworms-what should I do?
A: Try:
Soaking in garlic guard (stimulates appetite)
Hand-feeding with tweezers (for shy fish)
Mixing with other foods (e.g., pellets)
Q: Do bloodworms cause bloating in goldfish?
A: Only if overfed. Always thaw properly and feed in moderation.
