How to choose nutritious feed for pet parrots

In terms of pet ownership, having a parrot is a good choice. Parrots are smart and naughty birds that are the favorite of many birders. Small baby parrots are relatively cheap, and their diet is also simple and easy to obtain, so the cost of raising them is not very high and will not cause additional burdens.

In spring, in order to obtain better feeding benefits after parrots enter the peak breeding period, the proportion of nutrients in the feed must be adjusted. Summarizing years of experience, four changes must be made in the adjustment of bird food for parrots in spring. Specifically:

  1. Changes in protein requirements

Parrots need more protein to enter the breeding season. Therefore, the protein in the bird's food needs to be increased before the parrot enters the breeding period. The method is mainly to add mealworm Tenebrio molitor, egg millet, egg yolk powder and so on.

  2. Changes in vitamin requirements

The demand for various vitamins of parrots during the breeding period also increases, so we need to increase the proportion of vegetables and fruits, from once a week to once a week, once every three days, such as vegetables and fruits.

  3. Changes in nutritional needs

When the temperature of parrots is low in autumn and winter, we will add grains with high fat and nutrients to bird food, so that parrots can survive the winter safely. After the temperature warms up in spring, high fat and high nutrition make parrots gain weight. If parrots are too fat, they will get a series of diseases such as lipoma, which will affect egg production during the breeding period. Then we need to reduce the proportion of high-fat and high-nutrient grains in parrot grains.

  4. Changes in Mineral Needs

As female parrots enter the breeding season, their mineral requirements also increase. If the female parrot is deficient in calcium, the parrot will lay soft-shell eggs, deformed eggs, and even peck at the parrot eggs to supplement the missing minerals in the body. Then we need to put a cuttlefish bone and volcanic stone in the cage to let it peck freely, or mix the cuttlefish bone meal into the bird food to supplement calcium. If the parrot has poor appetite, it is iodine deficiency. You can put a health care ball or a mineral stone iodine calcium block.

Therefore, when choosing feed for parrots, it is necessary to carefully study the ingredient list and supplement nutrition in time.
