Micro Encapsulated Feed For Zoea Larvae

The AQUA PLUS^® Crown range is designed to replace up to 65% of the live feed during the larval and early post larval culture of penaeid shrimp species. The micro-capsules consist of 70% marine ingredients, most of which are applied as freshly frozen raw materials rather than meals. This ensures a better utilization of key ingredients and takes full advantage of the high nutritional value and attractiveness of the marine ingredients. The range offers a complete particle size gradient from Zoea through Mysis to PL stages, matching the changing feeding requirements as larvae develop. All formulations share the same marine-based nutrient foundation, ensuring smooth nutritional transition during weaning and minimizing stress caused by feed switches.

During the zoea stage, shrimp larvae have limited feeding capacity and demand precise particle sizes, adequate suspension time, and high nutritional density. Our microencapsulated feed offers controllable particle sizes and optimal suspension duration, closely matching the predatory behavior of zoea. This microencapsulated feed features stable capsule walls that do not disintegrate in seawater, preventing rapid nutrient leaching and water deterioration. Compared to live feeds alone, the microencapsulated feed provides a more balanced supply of essential fatty acids and cholesterol, facilitating smooth molting and metamorphosis. When co-fed with small amounts of live prey, this microencapsulated feed significantly improves survival rates and developmental uniformity.

In practice, a combined strategy using microencapsulated feed and high-quality compound feed is recommended. Compound feeds include micro-particles, fortified capsules, and nutritional supplements that can be flexibly adjusted for zoea at different ages. The microencapsulated feed serves as the core basal diet covering major nutritional needs, while compound feed fills specific micronutrient gaps at critical stages. Used together, this approach reduces live feed production costs and avoids the risk of pathogen introduction from live prey.
